  • St. Bernard: Various Prayer Ministries

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry knits, sews, and crochets shawls, pocket prayer cloths, and worry worms. These items are then made available at the back of the Church for anyone who is dealing with physical or mental health issues, grieving the loss of a loved one, or going through a difficult time. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets at 10 a.m., every third Wednesday of the month in the St. Bernard library. They also welcome donations of yarn (not scraps) or monetary donations to purchase yarn.

  • Rosary Makers

The Madonna Rosary Makers is a group of people who gather together for a meeting, fellowship, purchase supplies and say the Rosary. Small workshops are also held, but generally the rosaries are made on your own free time. A person can make either wire/bead or rope/bead rosaries. The wire/bead rosaries are used for our newly confirmed members, and the cord/bead rosaries in white and black are used for our First Communicants. Other cord/bead rosaries are donated to various missions and pilgrimages around the country. The goal of our group is to help spread Our Blessed Mother’s most powerful devotional prayer.

  • The Living Rosary

In May 1929, 15 female parishioners began the Living Rosary at St. Bernard Parish. Members prayed a decade from one of the mysteries of the rosary each day so together a complete Rosary of all the decades was prayed daily.

Twice a year in May and October, members of the group gather at church to pray all the Mysteries of the Rosary, sing and recite the Litany of Loretto.

Today the membership has changed and grown to include both men and women, who daily recite an assigned decade. They almost complete five 20-decade rosaries each day!

On the first Friday of May and October, the group gathers to pray the rosary and adore Christ in Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. In addition, a rosary is prayed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel one half hour before every funeral or memorial service held at St. Bernard Church.

All are invited to join the members of the Living Rosary in praying the rosary for the repose of the soul of the deceased and their family.

The living and deceased members of the Living Rosary group serves as the intention in several Masses said throughout the year.
